List of Postgraduate Scholarships for Nigerians

Postgraduate Scholarships and fellowship for Nigerians and other Africans

Scholarships are available from various bodies for postgraduate students to study in both Nigerian and/or Overseas Universities and Colleges. While some scholarships offered for students to study abroad or locally are full tuition scholarships covering all students' expense both on-campus and off-campus, others only offer a specified amount (i.e. partial tuition).

Note that deadlines for some applications might not fall within the present time. For these, you need to bear the deadlines in mind and start early to prepare for the next award. Also, for current and up to date information, be sure to visit or contact the sponsors through the contact details provided.

We have compiled a list of Postgraduate scholarships available to Nigerians and other Africans. [You may want to see our complete 'Scholarship Lists'. To receive more scholarship notifications in future, subscribe to our free scholarship newsletter.]

  19. Hi,Good work indeed. Please I will like to know if there are scholarship offers to university of Ghana Legon by any organisation or body.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi there @Annonymous.
Yes, there are funding offers for study at the University of Ghana Legon, Accra. The main funding bodies at that school are the University of Ghana Legon itself and the Ghanaian government.
Unfortunately, h/v, unless you're Ghanaian, you may not be eligible for the offers, as required by these bodies.
To check out the offers, type in University of Ghana Legon in the Study & Scholarships search box above; Or browse through scholarships in Africa. Alternatively, you may want to search the worldwide web. I really hope this helps.
(Compiling a list of funding offers available for students at Ghanaian schools is a project I now believe will be beneficial to visitors to this site. I hope to do that in the nearest future).
Let me know if you still have issues.

  21. Very informative.please I am in the fourth year of my 5 year course and I want to pursue a masters degree abroad.I'd like to know the general criteria for selection,I also need counselling as to which degree to pursue as I have two in mind Corrosion control engineering or mechanical engineering. And please what aree the things I can add academically that can give me comparative advantage.pardon my many question,I just want to know everythin there is to know about studying abroad.my preferred study location is the UK and am currently studyin metallurgical and materials engineering

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hello @Annonymous, it is good to ask questions so as not to make mistakes.
The selection criteria for the many available scholarships vary widely according to standards set by the various awarding bodies. So you must check each scholarship criteria separately.
To gain comparative academic advantage over other scholarship applicants, this will apply ONLY if the criteria for the scholarship you're interested in has academic MERIT as a strict criterion. Many scholarships award on NEED basis. Academic advantage may not play a part in such need-based scholarships as compared to merit-based scholarships. Bottom line is to carefully peruse and understand the criteria for each scholarship you're interested in.
On the issue of needing "...counselling as to which degree to pursue", you definitely will need to have a session with a career counselor to decide that.
You may check out these European (including UK) and engineering scholarships.

  23. I so much enjoyed this page. but it will be better if my questions are answered. I seriously need a fully funded masters degree in Environmental Toxicology in a reputable uk university, must i apply to d universities before i can get a scholarship?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hello there, @Annonymous. For most scholarships in UK, you need to have secured admission to obtain the university's scholarship. On the other hand, sponsorship bodies exist that award scholarships to a wide range of fields across a varying number of institutions.
We do not yet have such a list of funding bodies for the field of Environmental Toxicology, and even if we will, it would not be in the nearest future.
My humble advise: (1).Search out as many institutions (e.g Brunel university) as you can possibly find that offer the course (Google Search can do this beautifully well). Then, apply to as many of them as offer scholarships on the course; (2).Write to as many funding bodies as you possibly can, asking for availability of funding for your chosen field of study. They may or may not have, but there's a good chance you'd be pointed in the right direction.
I know this is hard work for you, but it might just turn out to be very much worth it in the end. Goodluck as you search!

    1. Hi @Annonymous, see Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program for International students; and also search this site (use 'Study & Scholarships search' box above) and the web for more.
PLEASE NOTE that reports from Canada appear to indicate that, contrary to popular opinion, Canada isn't quite friendly toward foreign trained doctors. There have been reports of doctors ending up as Grocery attendants in Canada because they were hell-bent on waiting for an available space. The web is full of such stories. You can search the web for yourself using Google, with phrases like 'doctors experience in canada', and similar.

    1. Options available to you in the form of Financial Aid are:
1). Scholarships - reserved for students with special qualifications, like academic talent, interest in particular fields of study, or financial need.
2). Grants - form of financial aid that does not have to be repaid.
3). Loans - which must be repaid, with interest. There are three major categories: student loans, parent loans, and private education loans. Federal loan programs offer lower interest rates and more flexible repayment plans than most consumer loans.
4). Work Study Program - need-based and provides employment opportunities for eligible students. The FWS award depends on available funding and need.

  42. hi, im rinoye in my last year at the university of ibadan, studying science and would like to pursue a masters degree in uk or america. would i be able to start processing now as i do not have my results yet? and would i be able to apply for scholarships

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi there, most PG scholarships would require that you already have a masters admission to which you would apply that scholarship. Very few others would award you if you meet eligibility requirements ONLY.

Seeing that you're yet to graduate, it would not be so easy obtaining an admission since your results/transcripts would not be ready at the time of application. However, it is still possible to apply to schools in the UK and the US, and then send your results when they are available.

My ADVISE: Apply to the schools/courses you are interested in. When you graduate, send in your results, and then apply to the relevant scholarships. Good luck!

    1. Hello, we have compiled a list of scholarships in the field of medicine, however and rather unfortunately, we are yet to complete its editing.

Due to a very tight offline schedule, it may be rather impractical to expect the completion and publication of that list soon.

Hopefully, the list will be published in the near future. Thanks!

  51. Pls I am a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, HND, upper credit close to distinction but not distinction. Graduated in 2008...finished NYSC in 2010...due to family financial stress....couldn't further as planned...pls I have noticed that almost all scholarship opportunities are only for those with BSc and BEng.....none for HND holders, pls can you recommend any international scholarship opportunity or programme for HND holders that I can apply for pls?

    Thanks. Nice job....well done.

    1. Hello, there are several scholarship opportunities for masters in radiotherapy in ireland and elsewhere. Unfoortunately, we do not have any list of such presently. We will add it to the list of work we have scheduled for later this year / early next year.

However, you could search the internet at www.google.com and i'm sure you'll come up with a lot of good suggestions.

So sorry we could not give you our own list at the present time. Cheers!
