Scholarship Description
The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SAWISE) is involved in the offer and award of two scholarships - the SAWISE Angus Scholarship (for sub-Saharan African Women) and the SAWISE Hope Scholarship (for South African women).

The SAWISE Angus Scholarship is awarded every year to a Sub-Saharan black woman. South African applicants will be given preference, and the successful applicant should become an active member of SAWISE.

SAWISE is a dynamic association for all those who support the idea of strengthening the role of women in science and engineering.

Eligibility
To be eligibile for the SAWISE Angus Scholarship, all applicants must:
  • Be a sub-Saharan black female
  • Have achieved 70% or above grade average in her subject of study.
  • Only for studies at Honours level (or 4th year equivalent e.g. in engineering)
  • In any field of science and engineering.
South African applicants will be given preference.

Successful applicant should become actively involved in SAWISE.

Citizens of any Sub-Saharan African country

Participating Institutions
All accredited Universities in South Africa

Fields of study
Any course in any fields of Science and Engineering - Scholarships will be awarded to a female student for full time study at Honours level (4th year) in Chemistry, Physics, Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering

Number of awards
One (1) will be given each year

Sponsorship duration
The scholarship is awarded for 1 year of tertiary study at Honours level (or 4th year level of study)

Scholarship benefits
The value for the academic year 2013 is R10 000 per annumn

Method of Application
You need to complete the online application form. Thereafter, you will email electronic copies of the following documents to sawise.scholarships@gmail.com:
  • A completed online application form *
  • Curriculum vitae
  • An official academic transcript for all years completed(record)
  • Letter of motivation (~350 words)
  • Certified copy of your ID
Please be aware that prior to the allocation of any funds, any successful candidate will be required to submit hard copies of these documents as well as a letter of acceptance from the university at which they will be studying.

The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SAWISE) is a dynamic association for all those who support the idea of strengthening the role of women in science and engineering.

SAWISE aims to strengthen this role by inter alia raising the profile of women scientists and engineers; highlighting and addressing problems faced specifically by women in these fields; lobbying for the advancement of women in science and engineering; AND providing leadership and role models for young people wishing to enter the fields of science and engineering.
