Scholarship Description
Every year, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL), in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) offers the NNPC/ESSO International Postgraduate Scholarships to qualified Nigerian students.

The awards, which focus on Geosciences and Engineering disciplines are part of efforts at developing people for rewarding and productive careers in the petroleum industry.

ESSO offers these International Scholarships, in continuation of its efforts to provide opportunities for developing careers in the petroleum industry, to outstanding Nigerian graduates who wish to pursue their dream of postgraduate masters studies abroad in the disciplines listed below.

Eligibility
Essential requirements include:
  1. Must be a graduate from a Nigerian University
  2. Must possess a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of second class upper division in any of the Engineering and Geosciences disciplines listed below.
  3. Must have provisional admission to undertake full-time postgraduate study at a reputable foreign University (MSc or MEng) in the 2015/2016 academic session.
  4. Specialization in Geophysics would be an added advantage.
Ineligibility:
Employees of ExxonMobil subsidiary companies in Nigeria and their dependents are NOT eligible for this scholarship.

Participating Institutions
All accredited and reputable Universities outside the shores of Nigeria are eligible

Fields of study
Scholarships are to outstanding Nigerian graduates in the following disciplines:
  • Geosciences
  • Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil/Structural, Pipeline, Sub-sea and Marine)
Number of awards
Not specified, several will be given out.

As at 2014, a total of 123 young Nigerians have been sponsored for international post graduate studies since 1994, while another 159 persons have gone through similar programs in Nigerian universities since 2007.

Sponsorship duration
Sponsorship will last throughout the duration of the masters program

Scholarship benefits
The EEPNL Scholarship award applies to tuition, books, accommodation and living expenses for the duration of the selected course of study.

Method of Application
Interested and eligible applicants should follow the instructions under the 'How It Works' link found on the official website after having carefully noted the points below.

Before you start this application:
1). Ensure you have clear scanned copies of the following documents:
  • Passport photograph (with white background not more than 3 months old)
  • Valid ID card
  • Proof of provisional admission for Postgraduate Study into any reputable university
  • First Degree Certificate
  • Birth Certificate
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
2). Ensure you label these scanned documents accordingly, to avoid mixing up documents during upload.

3). Ensure you attach the appropriate documents when asked to upload.

It is important to visit the the official website (link to it is below) to read the scholarship's Frequently Asked Questions and for complete information, and also to carefully follow the steps under the 'How To Apply' tab found on that site. Strict compliance with guidelines is advised.

DEADLINES:
Typically within two weeks of this publication – applications close at midnight (12AM) on Friday, June 9th 2015. Applications not received by this date will not be accepted.

PLEASE NOTE:
It is important to note the following: Multiple applications shall lead to disqualification; AND You must apply before you begin verification of your application details.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted with details of the qualifying test via SMS text and Email. Employees of ExxonMobil Subsidiary companies in Nigeria and their dependents are not eligible for this Scholarship.

Exxon Mobil Corporation is the parent company of the Esso, Mobil and ExxonMobil companies around the world. Please note that ESSO®, Mobil® and ExxonMobil® are international trade names of the parent company.

Since 1974, ExxonMobil upstream affiliates in Nigeria – Esso Exploration and production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL) and Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) have supported the education of thousands of Nigerian students through the Companies’ various scholarship schemes.

Other schemes sponsored by this partnership include the NNPC/MPN Undergraduate Scholarship Awards.

    1. There is NO undergraduate equivalent of this scholarship for now to the best of my knowledge. ESSO may in future, decide to float one, but that is absolutely upto them. But if anyone knows of such an undergraduate award, let him/her post it here.

    1. Hello @Annonymous, we're not 100% sure when the call for 2013 session will be out, but on a general note it will be early next year. NNPC and ESSO has just very recently awarded the 2012 grants to the successful recipients.     1. Hello Victoria, one of the essential requirements for this scholarship award is that the student "...Must be a graduate from a Nigerian University".

      Thus, currently as of today, graduates of foreign universities, whether of Nigerian origin or not, are NOT eligible for this award. Please note that this may change in the future if the sponsors decide so.
