Scholarship Description
Each year, the University of Sussex offers and awards several scholarships for postgraduate study. As part of a wider initiative to invest in excellence, the University of Sussex is delighted to offer scholarships to overseas fee paying students from Nigeria admitted to start an eligible Masters course in September 2017.

The scholarship, Sussex Nigeria Scholarships, is worth £3,500 for applicants that meet the eligibility criteria and will be awarded as a fee reduction upon registering at Sussex.

For applicants holding/expecting to achieve a First Class degree, equivalent to a British Bachelors Honours degree from a Higher Education Institution in Nigeria, the award will automatically be enhanced to £5,000.

University of Sussex Nigeria Scholarships

Eligibility
In order to be eligible for a scholarship you must:
  • be a national of Nigeria,
  • be a self-financing student and
  • have accepted an offer of a full-time place on a Masters course at the University of Sussex commencing in September 2017. You must meet the published academic requirements for your chosen course. If your offer of a place is conditional you will need to meet the conditions of your offer before you are admitted to the University and awarded the scholarship. To receive the enhanced award, you will be required to provide evidence of your First Class degree from a recognised institution in Nigeria.
The scholarships relate to all full-time taught Masters degree courses at the University of Sussex (e.g. MA, MSc, LLM. MRes) excluding the courses listed below.

Selection criteria:
The scholarship is available only to self-financing students. If your tuition fees are funded by an external funding body you will not be eligible to receive the scholarship.

The scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarship funded by the University of Sussex. If you have been offered any other Sussex scholarship and wish to accept this award, you will need to decline the other scholarship or vice versa.

  1. Postgraduate diplomas
  2. Graduate Entry LLB
  3. Common Professional Examination (CPE)/Graduate Diploma in Law
  4. Graduate Diploma in Economics
  5. Masters degrees in Social Work
  6. Social Work post qualifying Masters degrees
  7. PGCE courses and schools direct teaching courses
  8. MSc Automotive Engineering
  9. Master of Education (two years part-time)
  10. MA degrees in IDS apart from the MA Gender
  11. Pre-Masters degrees and diplomas taught at partner colleges which are validated by Sussex

Scholarship benefits
The value of the scholarship award is £3,500 for applicants that meet the eligibility criteria. HOWEVER, it is enhanced to £5,000 for applicants holding or expecting to achieve a First Class degree from a Higher Education Institution in Nigeria.

The scholarship will be awarded automatically as a tuition fee reduction to eligible students upon enrolment at the University of Sussex.

Method of Application
You must apply for admission to an eligible Masters course via the University's PG Apply online application system. If you are made an offer of a place, there will be an online scholarship declaration on PG Apply as part of the acceptance process. You must submit this declaration by the deadline date below in order to receive the scholarship.

DEADLINES:
The deadline for application to an eligible Masters course, and submission of the online scholarship declaration, is 1st August, 2017.

You must allow sufficient time for the Masters application to be considered before the deadline.

Scholarship information will be included in your CAS for your visa, so please register your interest in the scholarship before you receive your CAS from the Admissions Office. If the scholarship information is not showing on your CAS or you want to register for the scholarship after the CAS has been created, please contact the Admissions Office.

If you accept a Sussex Nigeria Scholarship you will be required to undertake occasional promotional or support duties for the University of Sussex at times agreed between yourself and the University (e.g. providing text for the prospectus or web page). Schools of study may have specific duties they wish you to assist with.

The University of Sussex is a public research university situated in Falmer, near Brighton in Sussex. Taking its name from the historic county of Sussex, the university received its Royal Charter in August 1961, and was a founding member of the 1994 Group of research-intensive universities promoting excellence in research and teaching.

In the latest 2016 rankings, the university of Sussex was placed 62nd in Europe and 140th in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015–16.
