Scholarship Description
London Metropolitan University (LMU) is happy to offer the Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Scholarship for Bangladeshi students who intend to pursue postgraduate courses at the LMU.

The Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Scholarship is in honour of Dr Muhammad Shahidullah, who was passionate about education. Dr Muhammad Shahidullah was the first Indian Muslim to receive a doctorate degree. He graduated from the Sorbonne in Paris in 1928 and was awarded a PhD for his research on the distiches of the Charyapada, the earliest extant specimens of Bangla language. After completing his doctorate, he returned to Bangladesh and started teaching. In 1937, when the Sanskrit and Bangla Department was split into two separate departments, he became head of the Bangla Department. He retired from this position in 1944.

The Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Scholarship is offered to eligible students of Bangladeshi origin for the 2012/2013 academic year. All interested students are encouraged to apply.

Students applying for the Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Scholarship must hold an unconditional offer on one of our masters courses.

Selection criteria:
London met's scholarship is decided anually by a panel of eminent academics and business people in Bangladesh.
