Scholarship Description
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) have a mission statement to stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.

The Philadelphia Section of the SWE is pleased to announce the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Philadelphia Section 2012 Scholarship Competition.

Eligibility
In order to be eligible, the applicants must be full-time students majoring in an engineering, engineering technology, or computer science discipline at one of the following schools (see below) or a school within the SWE Philadelphia chapter area.

The applicants may be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate level of study. Previous winners of SWE Philadelphia Scholarships, SWE National, or other SWE Scholarships are also eligible for this year’s awards.

Selection criteria:
The criteria for selection are science/math/engineering activities, teamwork, leadership, scholarship, and an essay on the student’s personal motivations for pursuing engineering.

Judging will be conducted by members of the Scholarship Committee of the SWE Philadelphia section. The evaluation criteria include: interest in engineering, learning opportunities outside the classroom, a demonstrated ability to work both as a member of a team and as a leader, engineering coursework and performance, and a recommendation from a Professor, Teaching Assistant, or Advisor.

Eligible groups
Deserving female applicants who are enrolled in an engineering program at a local university or college.

Messiah College DeVry of Fort Washington

Fields of study
Any field relating to engineering, engineering technology, or computer science disciplines

Number of awards
The Philadelphia Section will be awarding several scholarships

Scholarship benefits
Several $1,000 scholarships.

Every year the program awards several scholarships in the amount of $1000 to providing financial / tuition assistance to full-time undergraduate or graduate students. Scholarship winners will be honored at the SWE Philadelphia Scholarship Banquet to be held in April 2012.

Internships:
Scholarships may include the opportunity for summer internship in 2012

Method of Application
Enclosed are several application form(pdf) [or Word form(doc)]. You may duplicate them as needed. You should also have received the forms electronically. Please email the completed package to: scholarship@philaswe.org

IMPORTANT:
All entries must be timestamped no later than Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Any incomplete or late submissions will be disqualified. Details will be provided to the winners.
