Scholarship Description
Strathclyde is a leading technological University and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has unique postgraduate programmes on offer.

Offered programmes include: the MSc in Environmental Entrepreneurship (the first in Europe); the MSc in Environmental Engineering (supported by some of the best-equipped environmental labs in the UK); and the syllabus of the MSc in Geotechnics has been designed in consultation with industry to incorporate the most modern methods of analysis, using industry-standard software, such as PLAXIS, ReWard and GeoSlope.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering/David Livingstone Centre for Sustainability is offering a £1,000 award to attract the best international student to our innovative MSc and MRes courses.

University of Strathclyde International Excellence Award (Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering)

Eligibility
Applicants with the equivalent to a First Class honours UK degree and/or with relevant professional experience will be prioritised.

The award will be allocated based on quality, but applying early increases your chances of receiving one of these awards.

On successful completion of the MRes research project it is possible for good quality researchers to transfer to the PhD Programme (i.e. the MRes would be equivalent to the first year of the PhD).

The school's MRes are aimed principally at graduates in civil and environmental engineering, earth sciences, bioscience, chemistry and chemical engineering; however the programme has also been successfully completed by others from an unrelated background such as business.

Selection criteria:
The award will be allocated based on academic calibre.

What is the difference between an MSc and an MRes?
An MSc is 67% Taught (120 credits of taught classes) and 33% Project (worth 60 credits). While an MRes is 33% Taught (60 credits of taught classes) and 67% Project (worth 120 credits).

Number of awards
One (1) each is awarded every year.

For September 2014 entry, ONE £1,000 International Excellence Award is available to an outstanding-calibre (First class honours) overseas student for the MSc and MRes degrees offered by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Sponsorship duration
This is a onetime financial aid towards tuition fees.

Scholarship benefits
The successful recipient will benefit from a £1,000 award partial-funding towards tuition fees

The award will be allocated based on quality, but applying early increases your chances of receiving one of these awards.

In order to be eligible for short-listing for this prestigious award, you should complete and return the electronic Application Form(pdf) by email to civeng-pgt@strath.ac.uk.

Please note that you need to also apply online for your chosen course via the link provided on the individual webpages for each degree (see official website via link below).

In addition, while completing the Application Form, you must answer the following two questions (no more than 500 words each):
  1. Why do you want to take this postgraduate degree and how will the degree support your career goals?
  2. What makes you 'excellent' that justifies you getting one of these Excellence Awards?
If an applicant is selected to receive an award, the award will only be given once the applicant has registered with the University and has commenced the degree.

DEADLINES:
Applications for Session 2014/2015 (September 2014 entry) has been on since 1st October 2013. The closing date for applications for the International Excellence Award is 30th June 2014.

PLEASE NOTE:
Only students who meet the quality criteria will be eligible and the Department reserves the right not to allocate the award if insufficient quality applicants apply.

Ensure your application is complete and includes evidence of previous degree qualification, two references (academic/employer) and proof of English language if applicable.

Allocation of an Excellence Award can only be given to candidates who have not already accepted another scholarship through the University.
