Scholarship Description
INSEAD - The Business School for the World, in partnership with its MBA Class of '75 offers the INSEAD Nelson Mandela Endowed Scholarship to provide financial support for one or more African participants per year at INSEAD in perpetuity.

Eligible candidates for the INSEAD MBA'75 Nelson Mandela Endowed Scholarship must be from a sub-Saharan African country and must have spent a substantial part of their lives in Africa.

INSEAD Scholarships are highly sought-after sources of financial assistance. They are limited in number and there is significant competition for each award. Qualified candidates are invited to apply for this award.

INSEAD Nelson Mandela Endowed Scholarship

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Nelson Mandela Endowed Scholarship, candidates must be a national of a sub-Saharan African country and have spent a substantial part of their lives and received part of their prior education in Africa. Preference will be given to candidates who require proven financial assistance.

Selection criteria:
By way of their interests, activities and accomplishments candidates for this scholarship will need to demonstrate:
  1. outstanding academic achievement and promise
  2. aptitude for business and financial management
  3. strong likelihood of spending the better part of their working careers in Africa and
  4. a firm commitment to the goals of African development, understanding amongst peoples and public interest.
In awarding scholarships, INSEAD shall particularly seek candidates from southern Africa.

(INSEAD runs a fully-integrated three-campus structure, with a Europe campus in Fontainebleau (near Paris), an Asia campus in Singapore, and a Middle East campus in Abu Dhabi.)

The MBA programme runs in parallel on the Asia and Europe campuses.

Scholarship Benefits
Up to €20,000 will be awarded. In addition, the accelerated 10-month curriculum develops successful, thoughtful leaders and entrepreneurs who create value for their organisations and their communities.

Method of Application
Interested applicants should complete their application and submit the required essays under the INSEAD Africa Scholarship Group by the advertised deadline date (see below). DEADLINES:
Each year, the submission of applications is for two classes -- the July class (starts in September) and the December class (starts in January).

For the July 2020 class, application submissions for Round 1 OPENS 22nd October 2018 and CLOSES 5th November 2018; while Round 2 applications OPEN 17th December 2018 and CLOSES 4th January 2019.

For the December 2020 Class, application submissions for Round 1 OPENS 25th March 2019 and CLOSES 8th April 2019; while Round 2 applications OPEN 20th May 2019 and CLOSES 3rd June 2019.

PLEASE NOTE:
To honour the life and work of President Nelson Mandela of South Africa, the INSEAD MBA Class of '75 created an endowment at their 30th Class Reunion to provide financial support for one or more African participants per year at INSEAD in perpetuity. At their 5th reunion the Class of '01J contributed to this important scholarship fund, as did the Class of '97D on the occasion of their 10th reunion and the Class of '69 at their 40th reunion. Recently the “Atlantic Group" in the Class of ‘99D contributed.

“Sound management education can harness Africa’s entrepreneurial culture”, commented Mr Mandela in support of this project. “I embrace INSEAD’s academic rigour and diversity, which will equip our scholars with the right management skills to drive Africa’s economic development. My hope and belief is that they will inspire a strong, globally integrated Africa”.
