Scholarship Description
Eskom will be awarding University Bursaries to South African learners intending to study in the fields of Engineering, Accounting, Commerce, Communications and Human Resources and who qualify for selection.

The appointment of candidates into the Bursary Scheme is at Eskom’s sole discretion, taking into account factors that Eskom considers relevant, including but not limited to its employment equity policy. Eskom supports a smoke-free environment.

Eskom will only consider applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements. The Eskom bursary scheme application is open for the 2011 intake.

Eligibility
Minimum qualifications:
  • BSc / BEng Engineering: Heavy Current, Light Current or Computers
  • BSc: Business Systems
  • Land Surveying
  • Environmental Management
  • BCom: Financial Accounting
  • Supply Chain Management
Minimum requirements:
  • Grade 12 (Matric) subject requirements: 5 symbol or 60% on Higher Grade
    • Engineering disciplines: Core/Pure Maths, Science & English Financial disciplines: Core/Pure Maths, Accounting & English
    • Business Systems disciplines: Core/Pure Maths, Computers & English
    • Other disciplines: Core/Pure Maths & English

  • Students applying for the second or third year studies must also submit their complete academic record. Those applying for first year must submit their Grade 11 results and latest Grade 12 results. In addition to the minimum above-mentioned requirements, students will also be subject to the entrance requirements of the various tertiary institutions.

Only the first choice of study selected by candidates will be considered. Blanket applications for all the positions will not be considered.Only candidates residing in the geographic area of the Distribution Northern Region will be considered.

About the company
Eskom generates approximately 95% of the electricity used in South Africa and approximately 45% of the electricity used in Africa. Eskom generates, transmits and distributes electricity to industrial, mining, commercial, agricultural and residential customers and redistributors. Additional power stations and major power lines are being built to meet rising electricity demand in South Africa.

Eskom will continue to focus on improving and strengthening its core business of electricity generation, transmission, trading and distribution. Eskom buys electricity from and sells electricity to the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The future involvement in African markets outside South Africa (that is the SADC countries connected to the South African grid and the rest of Africa) is limited to those projects that have a direct impact on ensuring security of supply for South Africa.
