Scholarship Description
The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (also, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna), together with the University of Strasbourg, announces for the Academic Year 2015-2016 a public competition for 4 positions supported by a grant to attend the International Doctoral Program in Economics.

The International Doctoral Program in Economics is designed for highly qualified and motivated students who wish to acquire the research and analytical skills of the international scientific community in economics.

It is designed for students seeking jobs in academia as well as those who wish to acquire the skills of professional academic research to work in government agencies, financial institutions, international agencies, private companies.

The International Doctoral Programme in Economics is jointly offered by Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Italy and by University of Strasbourg, France.

Eligibility
Applicants must hold a Master of Science (M.Sc.) or a Master of Arts (M.A.) or equivalent title. There is no restriction on nationality of origin.

Current undergraduate students who will be awarded such a degree before October 31, 2015, may also apply. In this case, a successful application will be conditional to the subsequent completion of the degree and the transmission to the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of adequate documentation, also in electronic form, no later than October 31, 2015.

The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (also, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna), Pisa, Italy; AND
The University of Strasbourg, France.

The Programme is part of a European network - involving the University of Sussex, Aalborg, Manchester, Paris XIII, Oslo and several other universities, supporting inter-European exchanges of research students and faculty.

Fields of study
Students will be offered one year of intensive course work. The coursework is structured in 5 main courses:
  • Mathematics for Social Sciences
  • Statistics and Econometrics
  • Microeconomics
  • Macroeconomics
  • History of Economic Thought and Economic History
After the coursework, they will then proceed to supervised research work, yielding an original dissertation to be discussed in a final, public examination.

It is expected that students will produce articles publishable in international journals.

Number of awards
Four positions of 4 years grants will be available.

Sponsorship duration
The International Doctoral Program in Economics is a four-year program.
At the successful completion of the Program, the School awards the student with the PhD (Philosophy Doctor) Degree.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship is amounting to € 14.000 (gross amount) per year + free lunches at the canteen of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna + Campus facilities. 


In addition to the teaching activities, Ph.D. students are nested in a rich research environment, within the Laboratory of Economics and Management (LEM) at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, and the Bureau d'Economie Théorique et Appliquée - BETA, where Ph.D. students are encouraged to take part in various ongoing research projects.

PLEASE NOTE:
The Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna may also admit eligible candidates without grants. They will take part in the Programme at their own expenses but they will not have to pay any tuition fee.

The aim of the program, in line with the standards of excellence pursued by the School, is to provide a training path oriented both at research activities and at professional careers in the private and public sectors, involving structured courses and supervised research yielding an original dissertation to be discussed in a public examination.
