Scholarship Description
The University of York offers a number of entrance scholarships, awards and bursaries which are available to international undergraduate applicants at the university.

Awards include Global Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships, United World College Scholarships, International Entrance Scholarships, and other 'No Application' scholarships for international students who would like to take a full-time undergraduate degree at University of York.

Note that some awards do not require any application, you are automatically considered when you apply for a course of study. However, for the awards mentioned above, you will require an application.

York University Undergraduate Scholarships: York Entrance Scholarships & Awards

Eligibility
To be eligible:
General Eligibility:
  • You MUST be applying for September entry. Submit a formal application for undergraduate admission to York University either by the OUAC website or York online application for September entry.
  • You MUST be an international student who is required to have a Study Permit to study in Canada.
  • You must be nominated for the award(s) by your high school. Note that a student can be nominated for more than one award, however only one nominee per school will be considered for each award.
  • You must be entering directly from high school (no more than two years after graduation) to the first year of a full-time undergraduate degree program in one of the Faculties listed below (see Fields of Study).
  • You must possess an excellent academic record (“A” average or equivalent) and have demonstrated leadership through community service or excellence in the arts, sports or other areas of individual achievement.
  • You must submit required application documentation. Refer to the “Required Supporting Documentation” checklist on the application form.
Specific eligibility criteria for each scholarship award:
  1. Global Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships:
    • Highest academic average
    • Nomination by high school
    • Leadership and demonstrated skills
    • To renew - must have a high academic standing (7.80 on a 9-point York scale) in each academic year at York
  2. United World College Scholarships:
    • Enrolled in a United World College and high academic standing
    • To renew - maintain a high academic standing (7.80 on a 9-point York scale) in each academic year at York
    • York requests that only one candidate be nominated per school
  3. International Entrance Scholarships:
    • Highest academic average
    • Demonstrated leadership skill
    • Letters of recommendation
    • To renew - maintain a high academic standing (7.80 on a 9-point York scale) in each academic year at York
Eligible groups
Citizens of ALL countries of the world (EXCEPT citizens and permanent residents of Canada)

Any undergraduate program in one of the following Faculties:
  • Arts, Media, Performance & Design; 
  • Environmental Studies; 
  • Glendon; 
  • Health; 
  • Lassonde School of Engineering; 
  • Liberal Arts & Professional Studies; 
  • Science; and 
  • Schulich School of Business.
Number of awards
Only one candidate per school will be considered for this award.

Scholarship benefits
The benefits include (based on 2013-2014 figures but subject to change):
  • Global Leader of Tomorrow Award: $68,000 ($17,000 x 4 years)
  • United World College Scholarship $112,000 ($28,000 x 4 years)
  • International Entrance Scholarships: $112,000 ($28,000 x 4 years)
To renew the scholarship, one must maintain a high academic standing (7.80 on a 9-point York scale) in each academic year at York.

Method of Application
You do not need an offer of admission to submit the international scholarship and awards application. There are two ways to apply to undergraduate study at York – either via the Ontario Universities Application Center (OUAC) or via the York University Application - choose the one that best applies to your circumstances. You must submit your Scholarship Application with all relevant supporting documents on or before the deadline date.

It is important to visit the official website (link to it is below), thereafter click on the 'I am an international applicant' link, scroll down and follow the provided link to commence applications.

DEADLINE:
Application to apply becomes available in early December. The annual deadline for submission of all applications is 15th March. Applications are not accepted after March 15. For the September 2016 entry date, deadline date is 15 February 2016.

    2. thank you :) I checked the link and the scholarship i was looking for - international students scholarship- and they stated that the application would be out mid-December. I guess its not out yet :(??

    3. Lucille it's not very clear what you mean by - 'international students scholarship'. There are several international student scholarships offered by York University.

      Please visit via the link provided above. While on the official website, click on 'I am an international applicant' to open the complete list of international student scholarships. Scroll down and go through them all and choose those you are eligible for.
