Maastricht University (UM) offers the Maastricht University Holland High Potential scholarship for excellent students from outside the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) who wish to do a master’s or a professional education programme at Maastricht University.
UM aims to further strengthen its position as a leading European university offering high-quality education with an international orientation. To this end, the university implements a pro-active recruitment policy for international students, in particular for the Master’s programmes.
The Holland High Potential Scholarship consists of a High Potential Scholarship combined with a Holland Scholarship. It is aimed at international students from outside the EU/EEA who wish to follow a full degree programme in the Netherlands.
All candidates must meet the following requirements:
- You come from a country outside the EU/EEA and meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
- You are applying for a full-time master’s programme at Maastricht University.
- You meet the specific admission requirements of Maastricht University.
- You have never studied at an education institution in the Netherlands.
- You are not over 35 years of age at the start of the 2017/18 academic year.
- You obtained excellent results during your prior education programmes, as demonstrated by your latest grade transcript. If several applicants are equally qualified, the University will give preference to applicants whose transcript(s) demonstrate that they are among the top 5% of the 2017/18 scholarship programme applicants.
For the scholarship assessment, the Scholarship Committee takes all elements of the application into account, including: the level of previous study programmes, academic excellence, motivation, status of the home institution, the connection with the prior study programme, future career plans and references.

Scholarship is awarded for the duration of the Master's programme, with a maximum of 12 months. In case of a two-year Master's programme, the Scholarship Committee will award the scholarship for a maximum of 24 months.
The value of the award will cover living expenses (€10,500), insurance (€520), visa costs (€311), and tuition fee (€ 13,000 or € 17,500).
Method of Application
To apply for the scholarship, there are 3 steps to follow. First, you must register for a Master’s Programme (MA) at Maastricht University. Once you are accepted to your MA programme, you will receive a student ID number which you will use to login into MyUM. Secondly, you must fill out, print, sign, and scan the completed application form to an electronic device of your choosing. Finally, sign in to your MyUM account to upload the necessary documents, including the scan of your completed application form.

In applying for your masters, bear in mind that for almost all the faculties, deadlines will fall between December to March (traditionally 1st December, 1st February or 1st March). Some faculties have multiple deadlines (i.e. Law; Health, Medicine and Life Sciences; Humanities and Sciences).
For the scholarship application, the deadline to apply is 1st February 2017.
It is important to note that this is NOT a full scholarship. The awards are arranged and paid by the Scholarship Office.
