Scholarship Description
AAUW (formerly American Association of University Women) awards International Fellowships for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are NOT United States citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported.

AAUW has a long and distinguished history of advancing educational and professional opportunities for women in the United States and around the globe.

Applications for AAUW International Fellowships are usually open August 1–December 1 every year.

AAUW International Fellowships

Eligibility
Applicants must be women and have citizenship in a country other than the United States or possession of a nonimmigrant visa if residing in the United States. Women holding dual citizenship in the United States and another country are not eligible.

Applicants must have earned the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree (earned in the U.S. or abroad) by 30 September 2017 and must have applied to their proposed institutions of study by the time of the application.

Applicants must be proficient in English and must intend to return to her home country to pursue a professional career.

Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work.

Fellowship and grant recipients undergo a highly competitive selection process. Academic excellence, commitment to improving the human condition, and the promise of continued impact are cornerstones of the rigorous criteria.

Number of Awards
Total number of awards is NOT specified (except for master’s/first professional degrees).

Up to five International Fellowships for master’s/first professional degrees will be renewable for a second year; renewal instructions will be provided to fellows during their fellowship year.

Scholarship benefits
The value of the fellowships are as follows:
  • Master's/first Professional Degree Fellowship: $18,000
  • Doctoral Fellowship: $20,000
  • Postdoctoral Fellowship: $30,000

After you register, you'll be directed to the eligibility quiz. If you pass the eligibility quiz, the remainder of the application will launch automatically. If you do NOT pass the eligibility quiz, you will receive a notification, and the application will not be available to you.

DEADLINES:
Applications for AAUW International Fellowships are open August 1–December 1. All supporting documents must also be received by this date. If an application deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, supporting documents must be received the next business day.

PLEASE NOTE:
Originally designed to provide Latin American women opportunities for graduate and postgraduate study in the United States, the International Fellowships program awarded its first fellowship in 1917. The program now includes women from around the world, and International Fellowships have been awarded to more than 3,300 women from more than 130 nations.
