Scholarship Description
Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (or, HAW Hamburg) awards scholarships to its academically strong international students studying both its Bachelor degree programmes and Master degree programmes (see Scholarship for Bachelor students).

The good news is that the City of Hamburg subsidises degree programmes at Hamburg universities, so the school does not charge tuition fees for national and international students except for professional Master's programmes.

Eligible students are invited to take advantage of these Academic scholarships for international HAW Hamburg Master students, and apply to HAW Hamburg as outlined in the instructions below.

Academic scholarships for international HAW Hamburg Master students

Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to apply for the scholarship:
  • You are an international Master student at the HAW Hamburg and are studying in the Regelstudienzeit* (*the number of semesters defined for the completion of your degree). (If you are at the end of your studies, meaning that you only have one year left until you finish your studies, you can apply for the Final Year Scholarship.)
  • You completed your school education outside of Germany or successfully graduated from a Studienkolleg
  • You successfully completed a Bachelor's degree
  • Your GPA is at least 2,5.
  • You ideally completed an internship related to your studies (certificate needed)
  • You ideally are and/or have been socially/voluntarily committed (certificate needed)
  • You are not entitled to BAföG, i.e. you do not fulfil the requirements of § 8 of the Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (BAföG) (If you are unsure please contact the BAföG Amt. You should definitely do this if you do not have a residency permit according to §16 Aufenthaltsgesetz or are an EU citizen)
*Students studying the degree programmes Public Health, Public Management, Social and Health Management may not apply for the scholarship

All Master degree programmes at HAW Hamburg, EXCEPT Design (Illustration, Communication Design, Fashion- Textile and Costume Design), Public Health, Public Management, Sozial- und Gesundheitsmanagement and degree programmes in collaboration with Heide and Lüchow-Dannenberg

Sponsorship duration
The scholarship is for one semester; an extension for a further two semesters is possible.

Scholarship benefits
The award has value of up to 500 Euros/month (4 months per semester). You do not pay tuition fees. See student costs and financing page.

Method of Application
You need to be currently enrolled at the HAW Hamburg to apply for the scholarship. The application has to be submitted via the plattform Mobility Online. The link will be provided on the official website once the application period has started. The requested documents on the official website must be submitted for the application.

There are two application deadlines (winter and summer semesters) every year. The application deadline for the winter semester 2018 will probably be 30 September 2018. Applications received after this deadline can unfortunately not be accepted
