Scholarship Description
Are you working on an exciting company with massive potential to scale? Is 2015 the year you plan to go big? The application window for DEMO Africa 2015 is now open: entrepreneurs can apply today!

Each year since the first DEMO Africa event was held in 2012, DEMO Africa has offered the DEMO Africa applications for African Start-up Entrepreneurs.

DEMO Africa allows start-ups from all over Africa to meet VCs, investors, tech acquisition specialists, IT buyers and media from across the region and around the globe.

DEMO Africa 2015

Eligibility
To be eligible to launch on the DEMO Africa stage applicants MUST have a working product (not an idea) ready for market and the product must:
  • Solve a commercial problem
  • Make an impact or change the marketplace into which it is introduced or create a new market
  • Have a business plan and a management team capable of delivering the product to market
  • Make its public debut at the DEMO Africa conference
  • Must be a registered company

Fields of study
The start-ups are given an opportunity to launch their products to a tech eco-system under the following 12 categories:

  6. Media and Entertainment
  7. Communication
  8. Transport and Logistics
  9. Energy
  10. Finance and Banking
  11. Water and Sanitation
  12. Waste Management and Recycling

Scholarship benefits
At the end of the application period, all qualifying applications will be taken through an adjudication process after which the top thirty will be invited to pitch on the DEMO Africa stage in September during the DEMO Africa event in Lagos, Nigeria.

DEMO Africa 2015 is scheduled to take place on 24th and 25th September at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

In just three years, DEMO African alumni have generated over $8 million in either investment, business or partnerships from the unique mix of positioning, opportunity (networking, fundraising), training and exposure that our launchpad offers.

DEMO Africa is one of the flagship initiatives of LIONS@frica and aims to connect African startups to the global ecosystem. DEMO Africa is the place where the most innovative companies from African countries get a platform to launch their products and announce to Africa and the world what they have developed.

With real startups being created in Africa to develop real-world solutions, worthy of investment and global attention, The U.S. Department of State, in collaboration with Microsoft, DEMO, USAID, and Startup Weekend, launched the Liberalizing Innovation Opportunity Nations (LIONS@FRICA) Partnership.

This was In recognition of Africa’s economic emergence. The public-private alliance is aimed at enhancing and deepening the startup and innovation ecosystems of targeted fast- growing African economies.
