Scholarship Description
The Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Foundation awards scholarships to women who are pursuing careers in transportation through undergraduate and graduate programs. WTS scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific transportation goals, academic record and transportation-related activities or job skills.
The WTSF scholarships include: Sharon D. Banks Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship, Helene M. Overly Memorial Graduate Scholarship, Molitoris Leadership Scholarship for Undergraduates, Leadership Legacy Scholarship for Graduates, Junior College Scholarship, WTS Transportation YOU High School Scholarship and Lea+Elliott Transportation YOU DC Summit Scholarship.
The purpose of the Molitoris Leadership Scholarship is to motivate and reward women who demonstrate leadership in the transportation industry, ensuring that the essential leadership, skills and perspective of women are included in planning the transportation systems of the future. Leadership does not just happen. Leaders personally invest and risk much. They take on struggles that many would avoid and persevere to reach successful outcomes. These qualities receive special attention in the selection of the winner.
Eligibility
The Molitoris Leadership Scholarship is awarded to women pursuing undergraduate studies in transportation or a related field that demonstrate leadership skills, ability, and interest. The minimum criteria for selection are as follows:
- Open to women
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance or logistics
- Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field
- Applicants for the Molitoris Leadership Scholarship are asked to specifically address the issue of leadership on their personal statement.
Local Chapters may have additional requirements (such as personal interviews or higher GPA). Please contact your local WTS chapter for more information (link to it is below).

Method of Application
Applications must be submitted through local WTS chapters. The chapters submit their nominations for consideration to a Selection Committee composed of Foundation Board members. Please mail the completed application form to the address below:

WTS International was founded in 1977 by a group of pioneering women in transportation who realized that women’s careers would benefit from professional development, encouragement and recognition to support their advancement in transportation professions. Now, after more than 40 years of growth and development, WTS is an international organization of women and men with more than 79 chapters. Local chapters generate high-caliber professional development and networking opportunities for WTS members across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Part of the WTS goal of fostering the development of women in the transportation field can be realized by encouraging bright new professionals to undertake careers in the area of transportation.
