Scholarship Description
The Eric Bleumink Fund, established on 23 May 2000, provides financial support to Master’s students and PhD students from developing countries wishing to pursue a Master’s degree or doctorate.

This initiative will not only improve the cooperation between the University of Groningen and universities in developing countries, but will also raise the level of academic expertise in these countries.

All applications to the Masters programmes at the University of Groningen must be completed on or before 1st December so as to allow adequate time for processing of the submitted applications, and subsequent award of this grant scholarship.

Eligibility
Candidates for the Eric Bleumink Fund should:
  • Have obtained conditional admission to the program of choice (see: www.rug.nl/masters/alphabetical )
  • Have excellent academic performance, preferably to be confirmed by letters of recommendation
  • Have excellent grades during their bachelor/undergraduate studies;
  • Have excellent English language proficiency, in accordance with the admission requirements of the program of choice
  • Be available for the whole period of the programme and be able to take part in the entire programme
  • Be in good health, so that health insurance in the Hold the nationality of a country appearing in Appendix 1 (see official website for this).
  • Have no other means of financing the study in question

The Eric Bleumink Fund no longer offers support for doctoral programs. Only Masters programs are now supported. You may want to see an overview of the Master’s programs or Doctoral programs at the University.

Number of awards
Not specified by provider, however, per study programme only two candidates can be nominated.

Please note that a considerable number of students apply for this scholarship each year, whereas the University can issue only a limited number of grants.

Sponsorship duration
The grant is awarded for a 1 year or 2 years Master’s degree programme

Scholarship benefits
The grant covers tuition fee, costs of international travel, subsistence, books, and health insurance.

Method of Application
It is not possible to actively apply for an Eric Bleumink Fund Scholarship. Suitable candidates will be informed about a nomination. The University of Groningen Admission Office, in consultation with the Admission Boards of its faculties, will determine which applicants will be nominated for an Eric Bleumink Fund scholarship. Only applicants who have received a (conditional) admission offer for a master programme before February can thus be considered.

DEADLINE:
In order to allow for enough time to process the application to a master programme by the Admission Office, such a master application should be completed by the applicant before 1st of December.

PLEASE NOTE:
The Board of the Eric Bleumink Fund will take a decision during their meeting, as referred to above. The study programme and the candidate will both be informed on the decision taken by the Board. If a candidate is selected the coordinator and the candidate will have contact on the details of his or her arrival. If necessary he/she can contact the Board of the Eric Bleumink Fund for extra assistance.
