Scholarship Description
The French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) (or in French, Fonds Français pour l'Environnement Mondial) runs the Small-Scale Initiatives Programme to support civil society organisations in Africa which are actively working on biodiversity protection and climate change action.

This Small-Scale Initiatives Programme (SSIP) aims at strengthening the civil society contribution of Central and Western African countries, Madagascar and Mozambique to the conservation of the Environment by funding local projects.

The French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) is a financial instrument of French cooperation and development policy, dedicated to the protection of the global environment. For 20 years, its mission has been to co-finance projects with a strong environmental focus in developing countries and emerging markets. The SSIP focuses on Sub-Saharian African countries, including Madagascar and Mozambique.

Eligibility
Successful applicants include NGOs from the eligible countries, professional bodies, women and youth groups or associations.

Scholarship benefits
The programme has been set up to help civil society organisations to:
  • undertake field projects in West and Central Africa, Madagascar and Mozambique,
  • strengthen their technical, training, management and project monitoring capacities,
  • strengthen a small-scale projects monitoring network in West and Central Africa,
  • strengthen their capacities for influencing environmental policy choices in the countries concerned,
  • share and disseminate their experiences and successes

PLEASE NOTE:
The French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) (formerly, French Global Environment Facility, FGEF) is a French public bilateral fund whose mission is to protect the global environment in developing countries, in the name of the French cooperation and development policy.

Its intervention strategy is steered by a Committee gathering 5 ministries (Ministry of the Economy and Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Marine Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry for Research) and the French Development Agency (AFD). The AFD is responsible for the administrative and financial management of the FFEM and is hosting its Secretariat.
