Fellowship Description
Japanese Association of University Women (JAUW) takes pleasure in announcing its International Fellowships for Women who are carrying out or would like to carry out independent research or advanced study at the post-graduate level in Japan.

This JAUW International Fellowships Programme is to offer core funding to financially help you come and stay in Japan when you have found that it is preferable or very important for you to stay in Japan to further pursue your ongoing study/research.

We have started recruitment for 2018 to enable promising researchers/graduate students in any field to spend a period of time in residence in a graduate/research institute etc. in Japan. JAUW is now inviting and calling for applications for its 2018 International Fellowships.

Eligibility (Qualifications)
To be eligible:
  1. Applicants must be non-Japanese women in the age below 45.
  2. Applicants must live outside Japan at the time of application.
  3. Applicants must hold a Master’s Degree or above.
  4. Applicants need to identify an institution/university in Japan where to conduct research. They need to have contacted and obtained a consent from a host at the identified institution/university before application. JAUW won’t extend any help regarding this matter.
  5. Applicants must submit application forms according to the Instructions.

Must be a women from any country other than Japan who fulfil eligibility criteria

Citizens of ANY country

Advanced studies or research in any area that require being undertaken in Japan

Participating Institutions
Any approved Japanese institution of higher learning

Number of awards
The program will allow maximum of 2 recipients

Sponsorship duration
The period of stay in Japan under this program is 4-6 months within September 2018 to March 2019. The program cannot be extended in all events.

Scholarship benefits
Each Grantee will receive between ¥500,000–1,000,000 to support transportation to and from Japan and cost for her stay in Japan. The amount granted will vary depending on duration of stay in Japan and the nature of the work. One-third of the amount will be given to the grantee upon arrival in Japan.

Method of Application
To apply, you have to use the designated forms for Application Form Part 1 (Personal Data), Application Form Part 2 (Proposal & Related Data), Form of a Letter of Acceptance (be sure to ask your host professor etc. to use this form when writing a Letter of Acceptance. Other forms shall not be accepted.), and Form of Certificate of Health. Download all from 2018 JAUW International Fellowship Application.

Completed application forms with all required documents and materials should be enclosed in one envelope and posted (e-mail not acceptable) to:

Japanese Association of University Women (JAUW) was founded in 1946, and in 1954 joined International Federation of University Women (IFUW) which had been established in 1919. Today members of IFUW are from 71 nations in the world. The purposes of JAUW are: i) To promote higher education for women; ii) To improve the status of women and girls; iii) To promote understanding and friendship among the university women of the world, irrespective of their race, nationality, religion or political opinions; and iv) To promote peace.
