Programme Description
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), operator of the NNPC/Shell/Total/Agip Joint Venture (SPDC JV) announces the commencement of the 2017 Shell LiveWIRE Nigeria Programme for young Nigerians.

The Shell LiveWIRE Nigeria is a youth enterprise development programme supported by The SPDC Joint Venture (The SPDC JV) which aims to inspire, encourage and support young people to explore the option of starting their own businesses through the provision of training and finance for young entrepreneurs.

The Shell LiveWIRE Programme operates mainly in the Niger Delta region, and since its inception has specifically targeted youths from host communities in that region of the country. For the 2017 programme, however, only applicants from some Local Government Areas of Rivers State will be considered.

SHELL LiveWIRE Youth Development Program

Eligibility
The programme provides support, access to training, guidance, and business mentorship to young entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35.

Applications eligibility:
  • Male and female applicants who are indigenes of communities in the following Local Government Areas of Rivers State: Eleme, Tai, and Gokana.
  • Must possess a University degree or HND in any discipline.
  • Must have completed NYSC if within mandatory bracket.
  • Must be resident in Rivers State
  • Must have an innovative business idea
  • Must desire to own and manage a business

Programme Coverage
The programme operates in the Niger Delta region and aims to inspire, encourage and support young people aged 18-35 to start up their own businesses in the Nigerian states of Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Akwa-Ibom.

THE OBJECTIVES ARE TO:
  • Enable youths to establish businesses through the provision of business planning and management guidelines and skills through the ‘Become a Successful Business Owner Course’.
  • Provide business start-up grants for candidates with the best business plans.
  • Link successful candidates to third parties like banks, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and allied financial institutions.

Programme benefits
For young people there is access to attractive, targeted, high quality, relevant programmes and opportunities to meet other young people with similar ambitions and challenges.

For the joint venture partners especially Shell, there are Public Relations, media and brand opportunities aimed at demonstrating commitment to local economic development. In addition because LiveWIRE works in the area of youth development and small business (which in nearly every country around the world are major political and social concerns), it can provide platforms to involve government to interact with youths/future leaders. LiveWIRE can also provide good opportunities for Shell Employee Volunteering programmes.
