Scholarship Description
The Masters of Research (MRes) in Genetic Medicine is a pioneering new programme providing extensive practical training in genetics as applied to disease and healthcare.

An MRes is a research-based postgraduate qualification with a taught element comparable to a MSc.

Offered on a one-year full-time basis this Masters programme differs from most other UK genetics postgraduate courses by allowing students to develop and conduct their own research project over an extended period.

The Genomic Medicine Research Centre is offering scholarships to the most outstanding applicant to the MRes Genetic Medicine.

Eligibility
Entry requirements:
  • A BSc (normally a 1st or 2:1), MBChB, or equivalent is expected from a British university in an appropriate biological or medical subject. International candidates must have obtained the equivalent of a 2:1 in a related degree from a reputed University.

  • The course is open to medical or science graduates and intercalating medical students. Candidates on the undergraduate medical programme must have satisfactorily completed years 1-3 of the MBChB and be able to demonstrate a motivation for laboratory-based research in genetic medicine.

  • biochemical genetics, 
  • developmental genetics, 
  • ocular genetics, 
  • health services research in genetics, 
  • common disease genetics, and 
  • clinical neurogenetics.

A £1,000 scholarship is being offered to students with the strongest applications

Method of Application
Applications for entry in September 2014 are now being invited.

To be considered for the funding, candidates must first apply for the postgraduate course and the scholarship will be awarded to the candidate who submits the strongest application and performs best at interview.
