Scholarship Description
Through a $13 million partnership with The MasterCard Foundation in Canada, Ashesi University College has been able to expand its existing scholarship programme. Ashesi will be awarding significant financial support to both qualified Ghanaian and international undergraduate students who need such assistance.

Under the Ashesi University College MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Program, the Scholarship Committee will meet annually to assess the financial status of each scholar’s family. You may be asked to submit updated bank statements, pay slips and other supporting documents to verify your family’s financial standing.

Students who receive scholarships typically achieve mostly A’s and B’s on their transcripts and national exam results. Applications for the 2019/2020 MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Ashesi has commenced.

Ashesi University MasterCard Foundation Scholarship

Eligibility
Typically, scholarships are awarded to students from low income and middle income families. Any family that cannot afford the full fees should complete a financial aid application form and turn it in with their admissions application.

The Scholarship Committee will determine the amount of your award on the basis of demonstrated need and the strength of your application.

Admission into Ashesi is a highly selective process which is based in part on the evaluation of information submitted during the application process. For general information on entry requirements for both Ghanaian and International students, please click here.

Selection criteria:
The selection process begins by determining who should be given an offer of admission based on each applicant’s overall profile. Applicants are considered on the basis of documented financial need and upon a thorough assessment by the Ashesi Scholarship Committee of all information gathered during the admissions process for each candidate.

Eligible groups
Citizens of ALL countries (incl. ANY African country)

Participating Institutions
Ashesi University College, Accra, Ghana (a private university)

Fields of study
All Undergraduate Bachelors level courses of study available at Ashesi

Number of awards
Not specified but many will be awarded. Please note that half of the scholarships funded by The MasterCard Foundation will be awarded to non-Ghanaians.

[There is no limit to the number of students who can apply. In 2014, international students made up 10% of the student population. So, Ashesi began an aggressive international recruitment initiative to increase the number of non-Ghanaians attending the university to between 30%-50% by 2020.]

Sponsorship duration
As long as you and your family can continue to demonstrate financial need, you can expect that your scholarship award will be renewed annually.

Scholarship benefits
This scholarship covers not only the full tuition, but also includes housing in Ashesi’s residence halls, meals on campus, a free laptop, spending money and annual trips home for international students after the second year.

Method of Application
The decision to make an offer of admission is done independently of scholarship applications and decisions. The Admissions Office first determines which applicants are most qualified to attend Ashesi. A Scholarship Committee then makes an independent decision regarding scholarship awards.
You can download financial aid forms on the official website (link to it is below) (or pass by the School's main campus in Berekuso). Submit your financial aid application form with your admissions application. You cannot apply for a scholarship after you have been admitted.

You will need to submit a letter requesting why you need a scholarship. Families will also be required to submit bank statements, pay slips and any other relevant documentation. The more information you can include to support your inability to pay the full fees, the easier it will be to process your request.

It is important to visit the official website (link to it is below) for complete details on how to apply to this scholarship.

    1. @Bravechic the regular deadline to apply for the 2016/2017 academic session scholarships is 30 June 2015, and regular applications have closed. However, late admissions application deadline is 25 August, 2015. Thus you may still apply until the Late Applications deadline and hope you will be considered. Good luck!

    2. Please note that I said you should "...hope you will be considered" because all international applications (and indeed scholarship applications) are meant to be with the regular applications. You will be extremely lucky to be considered!
