Scholarship Description
The British Council is calling on Nigerian writers to send applications for an event it is organising (the GRANTA/British Council Writers Workshop Sponsorships) with Granta Magazine, UK (www.granta.com) and the Kenyan literary journal Kwani (www.kwani.org/publications/kwani-journal.htm) on the 18th till the 23rd of June 2013.

The event, GRANTA/British Council Writers Workshop, will comprise three parts: a public salon event, a reading for students and a workshop for new and aspiring writers. The events will all revolve around the theme of the ‘new writer and the space occupied by new writing’.

The British Council will select and sponsor 2 writers based on the criteria below, to attend the GRANTA/British Council Writers Workshop in Nairobi.

Eligibility
To participate, you must satisfy the following criteria:
  • Writers that are between the ages of 18 and 35
  • Evidence of having at least one piece of fiction published anywhere, even online.
  • Must be a writer who wants to develop their practice and publish internationally.
  • Applicants need to have valid international passports and must be available to travel to Kenya on the 18th of June to return on the 23rd of June 2013

Fields of study
The event theme is the ‘new writer and the space occupied by new writing’.

Number of awards
Two (2) writers will be selected for sponsorship

Sponsorship duration
This is a onetime financial sponsorship

Scholarship benefits
An all-expense paid trip to GRANTA/British Council Writers Workshop in Nairobi, Kenya

Method of Application
Submit no more than 2500 word sample of your unpublished work and 150-word biography in the e-mail to cep.nigeria@ng.britishcouncil.org
