Scholarship Description
If you are a non-Canadian citizen and not a Permanent Resident of Canada, but you are currently studying in Canada, then you may be eligible for one of these University of Alberta scholarships: University of Alberta Maple Leaf Centenary Scholarship AND/OR University of Alberta Maple Leaf First Year Excellence Scholarship.

The University of Alberta offers many scholarship opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students with outstanding academic potential.

The University offers more than CAD$25 million in undergraduate scholarships each year, and their graduate funding rates rank among the highest in Canada.

Eligibility
[A] University of Alberta Maple Leaf Centenary Scholarship:
Awarded to student(s) on Study Permit(s) with superior academic achievement entering the first year of an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta from a high school in Canada. Selection based on academic standing, leadership qualities as demonstrated by involvement in extracurricular and community activities, and a counselor's letter of recommendation. Transfer students are not eligible for this scholarship.

[B] University of Alberta Maple Leaf First Year Excellence Scholarship:
Awarded to student(s) on Study Permit(s) with superior academic achievement entering the first year of a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program from a school in Canada. Selection based on high school academic standing.

Sponsorship duration
[A] University of Alberta Maple Leaf Centenary Scholarship: Renewal of funding for the second, third, and fourth years is contingent upon achieving a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a full normal course load at the University of Alberta, while studying on a Study Permit.

[B] University of Alberta Maple Leaf First Year Excellence Scholarship: The first year of a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program

Scholarship benefits
The benefits and values include:
  • University of Alberta Maple Leaf Centenary Scholarship: Value is $20,000 over four years ($5,000 per year)
  • University of Alberta Maple Leaf First Year Excellence Scholarship: Value is Variable
Method of Application
To apply to any of the scholarships, procedure involve:
  • University of Alberta Maple Leaf Centenary Scholarship: Students will be considered for this Scholarship if they have applied for both Scholastic Distinction (Entrance Citations) for International Students and International Entrance Leadership.
  • University of Alberta Maple Leaf First Year Excellence Scholarship: Automatic consideration upon admission to the University of Alberta.
Application and Document Deadlines:
International applicants are encouraged to apply for admission as early as possible.
The earlier you apply, the faster your application will be processed and you will have more time to apply for scholarships, apply for housing, and get your study permit.

You can submit your application and then send your documents later, as long as your application and documents are submitted by the appropriate deadlines.

DEADLINES:
Application deadlines vary by program.
For Fall term (September) entry—when most students begin studies—deadlines can be as early as November 1 the previous year for some programs. Other programs accept applications until May 1.
