Scholarship Description
Do you love maths and design? Turn algebra, trigonometry and probability into designing cruise liners, ports and super yachts! There has never been a better time for women to take up exciting careers in one of engineering's most challenging and rewarding fields - Maritime Engineering.

To increase female participation in maritime engineering programmes, the National Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics (NCMEH), Australia's premier maritime engineering facility at the University of Tasmania's specialist institute, the Australian Maritime College (AMC), is offering great scholarships to young women.

Launched in 2011, the AMC Women in Maritime Engineering Scholarships will be awarded every year to female students who have achieved Australian Tertiary Rank (ATAR) 70 to 89, or gain (OP7 to OP14) and, meet prerequisite entry requirements.

Eligibility
Scholarships will be awarded to female students who are intending to commence study in semester 1, 2017. Applicants should generally be:
  • Must be a female student and meet prerequisite entry requirements and;
  • Have an ATAR score of 70 to 89 (OP7 to OP14)
Scholarships will be awarded to female students who have achieved an Australian Tertiary Admission Ranking (ATAR) of 70 or above (OP14 or above) and intending to commence study in one of the following programs:
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Marine & Offshore Systems),
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering),
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture).

Sponsorship duration
This is an annual award, and will be awarded for one year. To retain this award recipients are required to achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship will cover 75% of the first year of the on-campus accommodation costs in a single room at one of the Halls of Residence in Launceston. To be eligible, students must apply for accommodation with University of Tasmania Accommodation Services - www.accommodation.utas.edu.au/newnham and cover the application fee and bond (these costs are NOT covered by this scholarship).

Method of Application
There is no requirement to complete an application for these scholarships. However, up until 31 October 2016, you are encouraged to apply online so that you can simultaneously apply for any other relevant scholarships. After 31 October 2016, you will be automatically assessed for this scholarship during the University Admission process.

DEADLINES:
The main application period is from August to October each year (closing date 31 October), for allocation commencing in Semester 1 of the following year. A smaller round is open in May and June each year (closing date 30 June), for allocation commencing in Semester 2 of the same year. The deadline date for the 2017 Scholarship Call is 31 October 2016
