Scholarship Description
Within the field of Robotics and Intelligent Systems, we are now searching for persons with competence in Control Systems Design, Automation, Sensor Fusion, Visualization, Human-Machine Interfaces, and/or Computer Vision, especially in outdoor environments.

The successful applicant is expected to have a strong academic background in one of these subjects, as well as a sincere interest and competence to become a key contributor for either of the following two projects: Project 1: “Library of autonomous motions for a forwarder crane”; AND Project 2: “Computer vision and human-machine interface for a crane”.

Eligibility
Applicants should have earned a PhD in robotics or a related field relevant for the position, preferably not more than three years ago. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English are required.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship is aimed for full-time post-doctoral research, and to be performed jointly with senior researchers and PhD students in the group, as well as with our collaboration partners which include Komatsu Forest AB (www.komatsuforest.com/), Skogstekniska klustret (www.skogstekniskaklustret.se/), and SLU (www.slu.se/en/about-slu/locations/umea/). Coordination tasks within large-scale projects may also be included.

Although an active participation in either of the two projects above is the primary responsibility, involvement in other projects (see http://www.control.tfe.umu.se) is also encouraged.

Method of Application
A complete application should include:
  • A cover letter with contact information
  • A Curriculum Vitae with a complete list of publications
  • Statements of research interests and of motivation for involvement in one of the two projects
  • A brief description of relevant background and experience, certified if possible
  • A copy of completed PhD thesis
  • Copies of degree certificates, including documentation of completed academic courses and obtained grades
  • Copies of a maximum of 5 original research publications. If these publications have several authors, the contribution made by the applicant should be made clear.
