Scholarship Description
The Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana (UG) is seeking the following:
  • M. Phil and PhD Opportunitiy: well motivated and industrious candidates from Africa for its M. Phil. and PhD programs on Climate Change Adaptation Research and Training Capacity for Development (CCARTCD);
  • Post-doctoral Diaspora African Researcher: to be hosted at RIPS for a period of one year.
  • Diaspora African Scientist: to be hosted at RIPS for a period of six months.
These programs are under the African Adaptation Research Centre (AARC) initiative with funding from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada.

Eligibility
To be eligible, the researchers:
  • are expected to be involved in graduate student mentoring and grant writing. In some instances, also student supervision and teaching.
  • are well motivated and industrious candidates from Africa.
Eligible groups
Citizens, both at home and in the Diaspora, of any African country may apply

Number of awards
Not specified for the M. Phil and PhD Opportunities.
However, one(1) each will be given for the Post-doctoral Diaspora African Researcher and the Scientist.

Sponsorship duration
Whole duration of program - periods of ten (10) months, six (6) months and one (1) year for the M. Phil and PhD, Diaspora African Scientist AND Post-doctoral Diaspora African Researcher, respectively in that order.

Scholarship benefits
The successful researcher will receive funding for the entire duration of stay at RIPS.

PhD candidates will be sponsored to a University in North America for a period of 10 months for mentoring as part of the program.

M. Phil and PhD Opportunity:

Post-doctoral Diaspora African Researcher:
Interested researchers should submit a 5-page CV, a 1000 word career statement and a 5-page research proposal by e-mail to the Project Leader at scodjoe@ug.edu.gh or scodjoe@yahoo.com. Application Deadline is July 31, 2011.

Diaspora African Scientist:
Interested scientists should submit a 10-page CV by e-mail to the Project Leader at scodjoe@ug.edu.gh or scodjoe@yahoo.com. Application Deadline is July 31, 2011.
